CYDNEY LOVETT-DOWNEY
Cydney Lovett-Downey is a young artist, working with both analogue filmmaking techniques, as well as traditional printmaking methods to generate works, which utilise the language of poetry to explore notions of existentialism, human experience and the passing of time. She splices found Super 8 and 16mm films to create ‘film collages’, altering narratives of forgotten subjects, while also giving a nod to the lost art of analogue over digital (a theme that runs through her practice). She borrow’s from a wealth of cultural resources such as literature, cinema and music - reappropriating cultural artefacts and considering how these change through space and context. Her practice is an attempt to convey inner thoughts and make sense of the world. She continually attempt uncover her individual viewpoint, to eventually free herself from received ideas while hopefully offering something to her viewers in return.
